Most Underrated Games?
#1
I love finding game that people don't really talk about and finding a hidden gem. What's a game you really love, even if it has some flaws, but doesn't get enough recognition in your opinion? Something like Dragon's Dogma for me, it's far from perfect but I love the hell out of that game and hope they make a sequel.

Banished, super hardcore game but it was quickly forgotten about. Shame, because it's a really good surivial - builder type of game, like Frostpunk that got way more attention.

On that note Yakuza games rule school and everyone should play them

Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals. It is a JRPG from the SNES era. It has things like an equipment based limits, puzzle solving dungeons, monster ally (that can evolve) aside from your normal party members, an optional cave (ancient cave) where you lose your equipment and start at lvl1 but when you return you get all your stuff and levels back + some special goods you found in the cave, a superboss after doing a scavanger hunt 3 times, a casino, new game + and an ancient cave mode.

For me is Alpha Protocol.

Looking back, I think Max Payne 3 was underrated at the time (or didn't quite live up to the hype) but replaying it a few days ago has made me appreciate it helluva alot more. Rockstar did a great job, a very solid game that I'd recommend if you haven't played it before.

I really dig Astroneer and Yakuza 0, but I'm sure tons of people love those. What makes a game underrated?

I've got 3 big ones:

Alpha Protocol: It's the world's first espionage RPG. It's by Obsidian, so the story's great. It's super buggy and the combat is deceiving. By that I mean it kinda acts like a shooter, but it isn't. It's an RPG. So you can line up a headshot with a sniper rifle, but if your skill's not high enough, and you have a bad roll of the die behind the scenes, you'll miss. This threw off a lot of the early reviewers who played it like a shooter.

Lollipop Chainsaw: A Suda51 game. From the mind behind Killer7 and No More Heroes comes a story about a high school cheerleader in love with her boyfriend, Nick. Unfortunately, on the day she's going to tell him she loves him, a punk at school gets the Necronomicon and unleashes a zombie horde on her school of San Romero High! Luckily she comes from a long line of undead hunters, and Juliet's always got her trusty chainsaw on her! With the head of her now-decapitated boyfriend attached to her hip, she's off to free her school, and hope her boyfriend's okay with learning about her family!

Lost Odyssey: An Xbox 360 exclusive jRPG from Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator of Final Fantasy. Called "The real Final Fantasy XIII" by some, you are Kaim. Kaim's an immortal with amnesia who's been alive for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Using traditional turn based battles with a little bit of influence from Shadow Hearts, you'll journey through a steampunk world over 4 discs learning what caused his amnesia, meet other immortals, their children, and your own grandchildren as you eventually save the world and learn Kaim's past through collectible mini-novellas in this gripping, somber tale

Paradox games, they're so much better than the Civ series.

#11
Swat 4. It has been my favorite since 2006 and I still keep playing it.

#12
Return of the Obra Dinn. It's a murder mystery game made by the guy who made Papers, Please. Your on a ship and you gotta figure out how like 60 people died using clues in dialogues and cutscenes. Graphics are very odd but in a way that fits the game. Only like 10-20 hours of gameplay depending on how good you are at using your brain but it feels so satisfying actually getting a death right.

#13
I have to say paradox 4x games.

#14
CTGP Revolution.

Mario Kart Wii Mod. Is the fucking BEST

I'd say battlerite is a hiden gem. It once was popular during its open beta release but it was slowly dying out after that. Sucks because if SLS did better job at marketing it, I would still be playing it. It's my favorite overall game when it comes to gameplay, but it's a big turn-off for me when they playerbase is small and there is no competition in ranks etc.

Dragons Dogma for sure, it has a lot of issues, mostly on the console versions because of hardware limitations, and just a general lack of polish on great concepts. I think they didn't expect it to really gain any traction, but its a very solid game with so much potential.
